Suggestions to choose the picture

  • For making a tiling portrait it is required a digital picture in a jpg or pdf format with a 300 dpi resolution (minimum 150 dpi).
  • Preferably a close-up picture.
  • It might be a scanned analogue picture or an image taken with a digital camera, tablet or smartphone. However it must be well lit and sharp. Avoid blurry and very bright or dark photos.
  • It can be either a colour or black and white picture. Preferably a photograph WITHOUT any filters, because these may distort the final outcome. The tiling technique is applied only to the pictures provided. No retouching, editing and other aggregates will be made.
  • For the stencilled technique you should provide a picture without many shades and those in it should not be quite sharp. For instance: photographs taken under an intense light, whether natural or artificial, do not work out well, because the nose, cheeks and hair shade the rest of the face. The ideal picture for this technique is one with indirect light (reflected) and a clear and uniform background.

About the sharpness of a tiling portrait

This technique reduces the picture's sharpness. Therefore the outcome distorts some facial features, keeping the main expression lines.

During the production process I will send you a sketch of your portrait. However, you must bear in mind that the final outcome may vary in appearance, clarity, detail and colour. The sketch will only give you an outlook of the final portrait.
